Announcing the Tango 59° Stockholm City orchestra: HYPERION ENSEMBLE featuring Luis Stazo

Tango 59° Stockholm City is proud to present one of the foremost tango orquestas in the world – Ensemble Hyperion, numbering seven instrumentalists of the very highest level.

Since its conception in 1992, the Hyperion Ensemble has developed a wide repertory of tango music and has performed at festivals, theaters, tango parties, and concert halls all over Europe, with more than 450 performances.

The Ensemble has collaborated with various bandoneonists as Daniel Binelli, Luis Stazo, Hector Raul "Tito" Cartechini, Peter Reil, Josè Luis Betancor, Marisa Mercadè, Massimiliano Pitocco, Gilberto Pereyra, Veronique Rioux, and others. These fruitful collaborations has added a deeper dimension to the Hyperion Ensemble's already intense, artistic character.

Hyperion's most notable appearances have been in: VI Cumbre Internacional del Tango Sevilla 2005, Festival d’Etè and Festival Couleurs Tango in Paris, London Battersea Arts centre, Lausanne Festival internazionale Tangofolie 1995, Freiburg, Stuttgart, Zaragoza, Malaga Theater Cervantes, La Versiliana, Vignaledanza, Teatro Nuovo di Torino, Arena del sole Bologna, Spoleto, Demotikè Theatro Kerkyra, Teatro San Babila Milano, in the Tangofestivals in Torino, Roma, Milano, Firenze, Venezia, Genova, Fivizzano etc.

In the month of may 2004 Hyperion has produced the show Boulevard Tango, with 4 couples of dancers, which has been performed in the last two years in several Italian theaters.

In summer 2005 Hyperion began the collaboration with an important dance company; AllthatTango, directed by Sebastian Arce and Mariana Montes. In summer 2005 the Ensemble also took part in the show Tango Nuevo with Roberto Herrera, and in the show Tango Metropolis with Claudio Hoffmann and the renowned bandoneonist Daniel Binelli.

From September 2005 Hyperion also performs with another great bandoneon player: Luis Stazo, ex Sexteto Mayor. The Hyperion Ensemble actually released 4 cds: Livin Tango (1998) - Boulevard Tango (2000) - Corso Buenos Aires (2005) – Buenos Aires Hora cero (2006).

MARIO ORLANDO TO DJ at TANGO 59° STOCKHOLM CITY INTERNATIONAL TANGO FESTIVAL

Tango 59° puts great emphasis on the quality of its DJs, something which to us is an absolutely central factor in making the milongas a superb experience for all tango dancers. Therefore, we are very proud to be able to present to you someone who undoubtedly is the most respected and well-known Argentine tango DJ in the world – MARIO ORLANDO.

Mario is undoubtedly the most famous tango DJ in the world. He plays regularly in all the most prestigious and well-known milongas of Buenos Aires, but also in a number of underground and alternative places.

He very rarely travels to DJ outside of Buenos Aires. Therefore, it is a very great pleasure to have him DJ at two of the late-night milongas of Tango 59° Stockholm City.

This is a rare opportunity to meet and dance to the music of a true DJ legend - one who defines the art of tango DJ:ing, but who rarely if ever appears outside of his native Buenos Aires.

The DJ lineup also features:

* DJ Riku Kotiranta (Gothenburg)

Riku came to the Argentine tango through the music, which, he says, made it inevitable that he eventually would take up DJ:ing. Riku is well-known for playing danceable music no matter the style, be it traditional Golden Age, which he prefers, or tango electronico, which he also enjoys. He describes his tastes as eclectic, but his choice of music is always organic and musical. It is always a pleasure to dance to Riku's selection of tango music. He has also appeared as a DJ in Copenhagen and on Iceland.

* DJ Peter Bengtson (Stockholm)

Peter Bengtson is one of the most active and appreciated tango DJ:s in Scandinavia. A trained musician and internationally active composer, his emphasis is on danceability, nerve and flow, and he definitely favours the traditional tango music (in contrast to his professional work as a composer, which is avant-garde). He finds tango DJ:ing much similar to composing — although with 3-minute building blocks rather than individual notes. He is also one of the arrangers of Tango 59° Stockholm City.

Påskledigt överallt, men för er som inte åkt till Malmö eller Sätra Brunn har vi självfallet tango på Chicago även idag, långfredag!

Vi hoppar dock över practican, och börjar istället milongan redan kl. 20:00. DJ är Lotte Rivero. Eftersom det bara är milonga är avgiften 50 kronor, och inget annat (det står fel i kalendariet).
